Comment
A free interpretation of a slain child in the Massacre of the Innocents by Marcantonio Raimondi after Raphael (Bartsch XIV.19.18). Parmigianino's preliminary drawing for the print is in the British Museum, inv. no. 1905,1110.21 (Popham 1971, no. 210). This impression is closer to the British Museum's unique first state than to the generally accepted second state described by Gnann 2007. We consider it the real second state made before Gnann's no. 22, which is quite different and seems to be the third state.
