Comment
This print is the best record of the fragmentary condition of the sculpure in which it was found in 1506 and displayed soon in a niche in the Vatican Belvedere. Dente's unique signature, written in full, and the identifying inscription give the print a documentary effect. It is generally assumed it was based on Dente's own drawing.
