Comment
See Patricia Emison in Print Quarterly 1984, pp. 257-67, for the controversy over the priority of the two versions of this engraving. Her argument that the version without the fir tree is Marcantonio Raimondi's original is widely accepted. Her suggestion that the version with fir tree is a copy by Agostino Musi is less certain.
